BB15'1995-97 (survey, 15 stones) |
|
During1995-1996-1997, Blanche Blizzard saw 15 gravestones at the McAninch Farm Cemetery, |
and made a layout sketch ("McAninch Cemetery" "Near Ohl on Copenhauer Rd" "March 1995"), |
reported in the "McAninch Farm Cemetery, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania" 1997 article. [Note 4] |
|
An exact 2023 re-reading of Blanche’s cemetery layout sketch drawing (dated "March 1995") |
can be summarized here. Blanche reported seeing 15 stones, arranged more-or-less in 5 rows |
(left-to-right) and 5 columns (top-to-bottom), and quoting the exact text written on her sketch |
(with multiple text lines on some stones, shown in ""s), following her cemetery layout sketch |
(the compass orientation North-South-East-West is not marked on her drawing, and is unknown). |

BB'10Graves (analysis, 10 graves, 2023) |
|
Traditional ‘headstone’ (tombstone) monuments and smaller ‘footstone’ markers were both used |
in the McAninch Farm Cemetery. As surveyed by Blanche Blizzard in 1995, the 5 or 6 stones |
with only 3 or 4 letters (initials) are now believed to be footstones, placed at the opposite end of |
the grave from the main headstone monument or tombstone marker. |
|
There appear to be five pairs of headstones and corresponding footstones marking some of these |
McAninch graves. Analysis of the relative positions of the 15 stones drawn by Blanche Blizzard |
leads to a net total of ten graves on her survey, with 9 different individuals that can be identified |
from the combinations of these 15 stones. and another grave marked "Unknown" on her survey. |
