[2] III. John McAninch [296 acres], Survey III. above, may be part of the Charles Campbell Articles, 20 Dec. 1795, Westmoreland Co., re “tract of land … north and west of the Allegheny River”, John got 75 acres, Campbell has the rest; MFHN 1996-25, Armstrong Co. Deeds Vol. V p.332. It could also include 50 acres per the “Nathaniel George to Rachel Jones and John McAninch” agreement, 16 Aug. 1797, Greensburgh [Westmoreland Co.]; that deed names James Cogley as a neighbor, and Rachel Jones marries Joseph Cogley in 1801, Armstrong County, which could explain the “Joseph Cogley claims …”; MFHN 1999-26, Armstrong Co. Deeds Vol. I pg. 160.

[2] IV. John McAninch [105 acres], Survey IV. above, is probably the same as the “99 acres” sold to Asa Freeman (mortgage dated 6 May 1834, for $350 to be paid over 4 years, 1836-1839); by “John McAninch and Elisabeth his wife”, MFHN 1999-27; Armstrong Co. Deeds Vol. 8 p.475.

[3] Joseph Cogley may be a common link, first as a neighbor on Williams’s 1806 survey, and then in “Joseph Cogley claims…” on John’s 1811 survey, along with the two Rachel Jones connections.

[4] William McAninch (and wife, Margaret?), has only one (possible) child – a male, name unknown, b.1810-1820, age 0-10 in 1820 Census, but no children in 1830; do not know what became of him.

[5] John McAninch is identified “John McAninch and Elisabeth his wife” (Arms. Deeds Vol.8 p.475), “John McAninch Senior” (Arms. Deeds Vol. 8 p.237), and with “Betsy his wife” (Vol. 11, p.251). However, John’s wife’s name has also been reported as Emily Jones, prob. related to Rachel Jones.

[6] John McAninch and his family can be found in both the First (1790) and Second (1800) Census. 1800, Armstrong County “McAninch, John  0 1 0 1 0 - 2 2 0 1 0 - 0 0” [NARA M32 Roll 35 pg.201]; Males: 1, 10-16; 1, 26-45 [son Wm. b.1784-1790], [John & wife, b.1755-1775]; Females: 2, 0-10; 2, 10-16; 1, 26-45 [2 dau. b.1784-1790], and [2 dau. b.1790-1800]
