Appendix I. William McAninch’s Marriage, 7 Oct. 1796, Greene County, Tennessee

William McAninch married "Doshia Dosey" (Laodieca? Ladosha? Ladisha?) (Dawson? Lawson?

Rawson? Rosson? Rowson?), on Friday, October 7th, 1796, in Greene County, eastern Tennessee.

There are two sides of the original document [A1 Notes below] [A1-1] [A1-2]

1. the outside of the document, "M L Bond” (Marriage License Bond) Numbered "416" [A1-3]

2. the document itself, Marriage License Bond of "John Newman Esq and William McNinch" (sic)

The outside of the document can be transcribed as

    "M L Bond" "Wm McNinch" "to" "Doshia Dosey" "T?(word?)" "T?(Tenn?)" "7th Oct 96"

"10-7-96" (red ink, marked in the 20th century?), "7" (not the date again; small "2", letter "l",

and unreadable "p2"? "pd"?) (recording fee?); "416" (marked and circled in the 1930s) [A1-3]

And the bond document itself can be transcribed in three parts.

Heading: four months after becoming the State of Tennessee in June, the pre-printed heading

"Territory of the United States of America south of the river Ohio” has been crossed-out, and

"Tennessee, Greene County" has been written into the document (written by the county clerk?)

Bond: "Know all men by these presents that we, John Newman Esq and William McNinch are

held and firmly bound unto John Sevier, governor, or his successors in office, in the penal sum

of Four Hundred Pounds, void on condition that there be no lawful objection why Wm McNinch

+ Dorshia Dosey may not be joined together as man and wife, in the holy state of matrimony."

Signatures: "Witness our hands and seals this 7th day of October 1796."

"TEST"       /s/ "William McAninch" (and) /s/ "John Newman"      [Written Name, Note A1-4]
