Analysis and Review of Anomalies and Discrepancies among the five Newspaper articles

With five different newspaper articles, two published in January, 1920, and three more about ten

years later (1929 and 1930), there will inevitably be multiple inconsistencies and discrepancies

among these five articles. This section addresses those anomalies and inconsistencies.

1. Rhoda B. Wilson’s birth year 1849 (not 1848) [11] [18]

a. (C.H. 60th) (1929) Coatesville Herald, 60th Anniversary article, 1929, says

"She was born in the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia on March 27, 1849"

b. (C.H. Nov.1830) (Rhoda obit.) Coatesville Herald, Obituary says (who gave the information?)

"She was born March 27th, 1848" (and this is the only mention of the year 1848 in any record)

c. Rhoda B. Wilson "born 27 Mar. 1849" is believed to be correct, stated in the 60th anniversary

article, consistent with "1849-1930" dates on the McAninch marker at Coatesville Cemetery,

and with her census records, especially "Mar. 1849" on her 1900 census record [19] [14] (a-g)

2. Daniel A. McAninch and Rhoda B. Wilson were married in 1869 [7] [9] [10] [11] [18]

2.a. (C.H. 50th) (1919) ". . . married in 1869, and honeymooned on the railroad to Brazil"

2.b. (D.R. 50th) (1919) ". . . married near Coatesville, December 23, 1869, by the Rev. Nelson

Green, then pastor of the Coatesville M.E. Church" (and see 2.f, 2.g, 2.h, 2.j below)

2.c. (C.H. 60th) (1929) ". . . were united in marriage on Dec. 23, 1869, by Rev. Tom Pearcy, of

Stilesville, on the farm south of town, known as the old Clint Newman farm" (2.g, 2.h, 2.j)

2.d. (C.H. Feb.1830) ((Daniel A. obit.) ". . . Dec. 23rd . . ."

2.e. (C.H. Nov.1830) (Rhoda obit.) ". . . on Dec. 23, 1869 . . ."

2.f. the marriage date 23 Dec. 1869 is correct in all five newspaper articles

2.g. the marriage location was not recorded in 1869; at that time, his parents, Daniel (‘senior’)

and Phebe (Pike) McAninch, were living on a farm in Franklin Township, Hendricks County

2.h. the marriage officiant recorded in 1869 was "Joseph T. Piercy, J.P." (Justice of the Peace) [7]

(wonder who gave the "Rev. Nelson Green" name to Danville’s The Republican in 1919?)

("Joseph T. Piercy, J.P." in 1869, and "Rev. Tom Pearcy" in 1929, referring to the same man?)

2.j. ‘old Clint Newman farm’? In 1869, Daniel (‘senior’) and Phebe (Pike) McAninch lived on a

farm in Franklin Township; 60 years later, was that now the ‘old Clint Newman farm’ in 1929?

3. The McAninch house on West Main Street, Coatesville [9] [10] [11] [18]

3.a. (C.H. 50th) (1919) "at their home west of town" (west of town, on West Main Street)

3.b. (D.R. 50th) (1919) "reside on a small farm west of Coatesville" ("on a small farm"?)

3.c. (C.H. 60th) (1929) "at their home on West Main street" (west of town, on West Main Street)

3.d. (C.H. Feb.1830) (Daniel A. obit.) "his home on West Main street"

3.e. (C.H. Nov.1830) (Rhoda obit.) "at her home in Coatesville"

3.f. Rhoda’s collection has some pictures of their house at 27 West Main Street [20, pictures]
