Daniel A. and Rhoda (Wilson) McAninch’s 50th Anniversary, December 1919

("Coatesville Herald") "D.A. McAninch and Wife Celebrate Golden Wedding" (page 1, col. 1)

"Mr. and Mrs. D. A. McAninch celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Dec. 23, at their

home west of town. On Christmas Day Mrs. John F. McAninch gave a dinner in their honor.

During their half-century of married life many changes have occurred to this mundane sphere and

erstwhile village. When they were married in 1869, and honeymooned on the railroad to Brazil,

airplanes, automobiles, wireless and innumerable wonders now accepted as commonplace were

unheard of. At that time the average farm was a ten-acre clearing. Prohibition was then considered

no less improbable that (sic, than) the millenium. Both Mr. and Mrs. McAninch are enjoying

good health and bid fair to celebrate their 75th anniversary, at which, unless the present forces

of causal evolution are checked, coal, and not diamonds, will be the accepted offering.

Among those who came home to the celebration were Mrs. Dora Swain, of Terre Haute, and

Mr. and Mrs. George McAninch, of Chicago." [9]

(Danville’s "The Republican") (in the "Coatesville” news section, column 3, fifth paragraph)

"Mr. and Mrs. D. A. McAninch celebrated their golden wedding, Christmas day. They were

married near Coatesville, December 23, 1869, by the Rev. Nelson Green then pastor of the

Coatesville M.E. Church. Mrs. McAninch came to Indiana from Virginia. Mr. McAninch was

born in Hendricks County and has resided in Hendricks County all his life. They were (sic) the

parents of eleven children five of whom are living - John F. McAninch, of Chicago,

George McAninch, of Chicago, Mrs. Charles Swain, of Terre Haute, Mrs. J. Loren Bilderbeck,

of Valpariso, Indiana, and William McAninch of this place.

There are seven grand children and two great grand children.

Mr. and Mrs. McAninch reside on a small farm west of Coatesville." [10]

("Coatesville Herald") "Mr. and Mrs. D. A. McAninch, of this Place, Will Observe Their Sixtieth

Wedding Anniversary Dec. 23" (two-column photograph, Daniel on the left, Rhoda on the right)

"To celebrate the golden wedding anniversary is quite an honor, but to observe the sixtieth

wedding anniversary is something very few married couples are privileged to do. On Monday,

Dec. 23, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel A. McAninch, of this place, will have their sixtieth wedding

anniversary at their home on West Main street. Mr. and Mrs. McAninch were united in marriage

on Dec. 23, 1869, by Rev. Tom Pearcy, of Stilesville, on the farm south of town, known as the old

Clint Newman farm. Mrs. McAninch before her marriage was Miss Rhoda Wilson. She was born

in the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia on March 27, 1849, while Mr. McAninch was born in

Indiana on Dec. 16, 1849. Mr. and Mrs. McAninch have made their home in Coatesville during

most of their married life. Mr. McAninch was for over 40 years foreman of the carpenter gang on

the old Vandalia railroad. Eleven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. McAninch, seven of whom

have passed away. The four living children are John F. McAninch and George D. McAninch,

of Chicago; Mrs. Maude Bilderbeck, of Newberry, Fla., and William McAninch, of this place.

Mr. and Mrs. McAninch have eight grand children and four great grand children living.

Both Mr. and Mrs. McAninch have been in poor health the past year." [11] [20, pictures]
