The 1850 Tennessee census has no McAn~/McCan~/McIn~/McNinch's indexed in

the entire state; only one name is even close, and it's in Giles County:

[home/family numbers] 58/58 Robert Reed 69 M Farmer b.Tenn

[presumably, Robert's wife] Elizabeth Reed 66 F b.Tenn

[and, the one "close" entry] Martha J. McInish 17 F b.Tenn"

[M432 1850 Roll 879, Giles County p.371]. [Martha J. McNinch (believed McAninch),

age 17, living with her maternal Reed grand-parents (note added May 1999 /fm)]

However, the 1850 Mississippi census has numerous McAninch's in the

Southern section of DeSoto County, including this particular household:

[home/family numbers] 737/737 Patsy McAninch 74 F b.N.Carolina

[and, on the next two lines]        Jane Thompson 30 F b.Tennessee

[all three in the same household] Elbert H. Thompson 12 M ditto "[b.Tennessee]

[M432 1850 Roll 371, DeSoto County, Mississippi, pg. 634].

This Patsy McAninch is probably John McAninch's widow, Patsy (Cooper) McAninch,

who moved to DeSoto County to live with other family members in her old age.

Also, "Jane Thompson" could be one of John and Patsy's daughters, born in 1820;

Presumably, Jane married a man named Thompson, and Elbert H. Thompson is their

son, and John and Patsy McAninch's grand-son, born about 1838, in Tennessee

[see the ‘1 M 0‑5’ entry on the 1840 census record (above)!].
