McAninch Rites Held Here Monday / Had Lived in Brooklyn 69 Years; Was Over 80 Years Old

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Methodist church in Brooklyn for Sam McAninch, 80, who died Saturday morning at his home here. The Reverend Miller had charge of the services and burial was in the I. O.O.F. cemetery.

Samuel McAninch, son of James and Elizabeth McAninch, was born in Ohio, Oct.31. 1857. He passed away at his home Saturday morning at 8:30 o'clock, being 80 years, 8 months and 8 days old. He came to Iowa with his parents in November 1869 and settled in Brooklyn, Iowa, where he has made his home since that time.

On November 26, 1884 he was united in marriage to Etta Woodle. After 36 years of wedded life she passed away in August 1920. On September 8, 1923 he was united in marriage to Cora Butterfield. Since then both have enjoyed their home together. He and his brother David worked together many years moving and raising buildings until the time of his brothers death. …

He leaves to mourn his going his wife, Mrs. Earl Allen of Waterloo whom he raised from a small girl; one step-daughter, Vivian Heyel of Calif., two half sisters, Mrs. Ella Helm of Malcom and Mrs. James McMurray of Victor, two brothers, McGinley of Brooklyn and step brother Oliver Simmerson of Dunkerton, and four grandchildren besides many other relatives and friends.

His parents, six brothers and one sister, preceded him in death. The one brother George of Davenport having passed away last week [George Washington McAninch, born April 1851, died July 1938].

Services at Victor for Mrs. James McMurray

Mrs. James McMurray, sister of C. O. McAninch of Victor, died in Cedar Rapids, Thursday night August 15th. Born in Morrow county, Ohio, on October 15, 1867, she was the daughter of James and Phoebe McAninch. At the time of her death, she had attained the age of 72 years and 10 months. For about 40 years she and her husband lived in Cedar Rapids. The couple spent about a year in Victor a few years ago. Survivors include her husband, one sister, Mrs. Ella Helm of Grinnell, two brothers, C. O. McAninch, Victor, and A. M. McAninch of Brooklyn, and one half-brother, Oliver Simmerson of Waterloo. Rev. J. J. Pritchard conducted funeral services at the McAninch funeral home, Sunday afternoon, and burial was made here. Organ music was played during the services. Pallbearers were C. O. McAninch, A. M. McAninch, C. D. McAninch, Dr. John McAninch, Elmer McAninch and Harry McAninch.

September 1943, Charlet Ellen McAninch, Mrs. Louis Helm

 

Charlet Ellen McAninch was born in the state of Indiana, December 17, 1865 and passed away September 11, 1943 at the age of 77 years, 8 months and 24 days. She was united in marriage to Louis G. Helm, May 3, 1884. To this union were born two children: Edward C. Helm of Brooklyn and Mrs. Gussie Hamor of Grinnell. Her entire married life was spent in Malcom and was active in all the movements that tended to improve the town. Due to ill health she made her home with her daughter the last few years. Surviving are her son and daughter, six grand children, one great grand child and three brothers, Oliver Simmerson of Dunkerton, McGinley McAninch of Brooklyn and Charles McAninch of Victor. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. E. P. Spurlock, pastor of the Methodist church in Malcom.
