The Editor’s Corner

There’s a new ISSN number (International Standard Serial Number) at the top of this page, from the Library of Congress. The ISSN is a unique, internationally-used identification for serial publications, like this Newsletter, and can be used for accurate citing of serial publications, and used in computer systems for data storage and record retrieval. The National Serials Data Program (NSDP), within the Library of Congress, administers the ISSN program in the United States; for more information, visit their web site, <http://lcweb.loc.gov/issn/>, or the international site, <http://www.issn.org> in Paris.

The ISSN is assigned free, upon application, and the sample Newsletter issue will be kept on file by the Library of Congress, which could make it easier for other McA/I/Ninch researchers to find us.

Also, new developments, two current experiments in the electronic area, using the best of the Internet:

1. Recently posted factual data and sources for “John McAninch, Pioneer, Armstrong Co., Penn.”, in eleven messages, on the McAninch Surname Message Board(s) at Ancestry.com / MyFamily.com (same messages, same parent company, multiple web-front’s); and

2. Electronic distribution of this Newsletter is now available, sent as an Ms‑Word doc file, attached to a regular Email message (requires Ms-Word ‘97 or subsequent, to view and print, and you must be able to receive file attachments); this will save postage, may save trees, and you’ll get it sooner.

Happy New Year; as always, please let us know what you like, and if you want the electronic edition.
