Rhoda Belinda Wilson

Rhoda Belinda Wilson was born 27 Mar. 1849, near Abingdon, Washington County, Virginia,

"in the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia", one of the places where her family lived for a while

on their journey from Guilford County, North Carolina to Indiana. Rhoda was the second child

and oldest daughter of Thomas Milton Wilson and Mary E. (Nugent) Wilson, Quakers from

North Carolina, who came to Russell Township, Putnam County, Indiana, in the mid 1850s.

Thomas Milton Wilson was born 1816 in Greensboro, Guilford County, North Carolina, the

eleventh child of John Wilson (1763-1831) and Elizabeth Ann (Linthicum) Wilson (1774-1834),

Quakers, married 1793 in Guilford County, North Carolina, where they lived, and later died there.

Mary E. Nugent was born 1805 in Grayson County, Virginia, the second child and oldest daughter

of Jacob Nugent (1805-1874) and Rhoda Harrold (1806-1866), Quakers, married 11 May 1823,

Grayson County, Virginia. Jacob and Rhoda (Harrold) Nugent came to Indiana (Morgan County,

1860), then west to Putnam County, Missouri, where Rhoda died in 1866 and Jacob died in 1874.

Thomas Milton Wilson and Mary E. Nugent were married 12 Apr. 1844 in Guilford County,

North Carolina; both Quakers, they came to Indiana in the mid-1850s, lived in Putnam County and

Clay County, and were long-time members of the Quaker Mill Creek Meeting, Center Township,

Hendricks County. Thomas Milton Wilson died 10 Mar. 1883, in Putnam County, and Mary E.

(Nugent) Wilson died sometime after the 1880 census, probably also in Putnam County. [6]

Daniel A. and Rhoda B. (Wilson) McAninch

Daniel A. McAninch and Rhoda Wilson were married 23 Dec. 1869, two days before Christmas,

by "Joseph T. Piercy, J.P." [7]. Daniel and Rhoda then "honeymooned on the railroad to Brazil"

(Brazil, Clay County, Indiana, was a major railroad division town near Terre Haute). [9]

Daniel A.’s parents, Daniel and Phebe (Pike) McAninch, were associated with the Methodist

Episcopal church, at the Pleasant Hill M.E. Church, and then at the Coatesville M.E. church.

Rhoda grew up in the Quaker faith, and taught in the Quaker schools, yet Daniel A. and Rhoda

were married by a Justice of the Peace, and joined the Coatesville M.E. Church later [8]

Originally a farmer, Daniel A. worked as a bridge and fence carpenter and track crew foreman on

the railroad that ran through Coatesville, originally Terre Haute and Indianapolis Railroad, then.

part of the Vandalia Railroad in 1905, later consolidated into the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1921.

The old right-of-way is now the ‘rails to trails’ Vandalia Trail across Hendricks County. [12]

Long time residents of the area, Daniel A. and Rhoda lived in Coatesville their entire adult lives,

and Rhoda kept the family house on west Main Street in Coatesville. In 1919, Daniel and Rhoda

celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, and, in 1929, their 60th anniversary, both at their

home on West Main Street. Both died within the next year - Daniel A. McAninch, age 79, died on

10 Feb. 1930; his second son, George D. E. McAninch, read the Masonic service at the cemetery.

Rhoda (Wilson) McAninch, age 81, died later that same year, 22 Nov. 1930, and both are buried

in the Coatesville Cemetery, south of town. [9] [10] [11] [14] [18] [20, pictures]
