death date of Dec. 28, 1951. There were at least two newspaper articles, if I remember correctly, |
|
before the obituary [Dec. 29, 1951, p.1]. |
|
The gist of it is that Royal was working as the clerk in a liquor store during a holdup, in which |
|
he was severely beaten. He lived for about a week, unconscious and partially paralyzed. For this |
|
murder the bad guy got away with $253. He later confessed, pled guilty, and was sentenced to |
|
life in prison. |
|
Royal was the son of Albertus Guy McAninch and Lena Hacek or Hacck, born 5 Feb. 1904 in |
|
Melvin, Iowa. Royal's wife was Esther Eva Dorthea Reul. They had no children, according to |
|
his obituary. Esther died 25 Feb. 1979 in Owatonna. Royal had two sisters listed in the obit [1951], |
|
Elaine Schultz of Green Isle, MN, and Elsie Beckstrom of Oakes, ND.” |

[and] “Mary Connor McAninch, no. 20 on the list, was married to Harold L. McAninch, |
|
according to her death record at the Minnesota Historical Society.” |
|
This could be Harold Leroy McAninch, born 22 April 1901, son of Harold Vance and |
|
Ella (Johnson) McAninch [Family Group ‘G’ in the article, MFHN v.X no.4 pg.2002-31]. |
|
“Baby Girl McAninch”, no. 5 on the list, died 05/24/1923 in Ramsey County, and could be |
|
related to this same family group. |

is a descendant of Perry Moses and Stella Jane (Glazebrook) McAninch, through their daughter, |

Pennsylvania: 1899, Jefferson County – obituary for George A. McAninch, 1815-1899 |
|
George McAninch Dead / George McAninch died at his home in Clover Township, Jefferson |
|
County, Pa., on Friday of last week, June 30, 1899, aged 84 years, 5 months, and 22 days. He was |
|
born near East Brady, in this state, and was one of a family of ten sons and one daughter. The only |
|
survivors of this family are Samuel, of Franklin, and Sylvester, of Knox township, this county. |
|
Deceased came into Jefferson county when only five years of age, riding behind his mother on |
|
horse-back, through an almost unbroken forest, the mother at the same time carrying a younger son |
|
in her arms. The family settled in what is now Beaver township, where deceased grew to manhood. |
|
In 1835 he was married, but his wife only lived three years . . . two children were born to them. |
|
In 1842 he was again married, to Mary Hetrick, who died in 1896. Of this second marriage nine |
|
children were born, five of whom are still living [1899], two sons and three daughters. The sons are |
|
James, of Washington, and Geo. R., of Mt. Pleasant, this county. The daughters are Mrs. Gordon |
|
of Minnesota, Mrs. Morrison of Clarion county, and Mrs. O'Connor, of Rose township. George R. |
|
lives on the old homestead, having purchased it from his father in 1888. The father resided with |
|
him several years preceding his death, receiving the care and attention due an honored parent. |
|
Mr. McAninch moved onto his farm in Clover township in 1851, and resided there continuously |
|
until his death, a period of 48 years. By his labors and with the help of his sons it was reclaimed |
|
from a wild forest and made one of the finest farms in that section. |
