I went to Putnam Co. last week and to DePauw to look thru the Archives. There was nothing |
|
there pertaining to the Pleasant Hill Church that the Archivist Miss Cammack could find except. |
|
2 books of records. One, “Northeast Ind. Conference, Newton Circuit, l857-77” and the other, |
|
“Pleasant Hill Comprehensive Record” 1880-90. In the last one I found one item which said the |
|
church was organized in 1832 with 25 members. The building was completed in 1852. These |
|
seemed to be in the right area as the Asbury church was mentioned, the others I did not know. |
|
This may or may not be the same church. There were no McAninch in either one, I would have |
|
thought the name would have appeared. I looked over each page carefully, and page by page. |

“… pictures I took in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, of Isabelle’s + Polly’s head stones, also some |
|
of the house where Elizabeth + Permelia lived, which I think must be the old McAninch home. … |

The graves - at least the head stones - of Isabelle + Polly were on either side of Samuel, but |
|
I could not tell if there was a place for Polly Skidmore or not. I poked around with an ice pick but |
|
could find no other stones.” |

“Am enclosing the pictures I mentioned. These were taken in the little cemetery of Pleasant Hill. |
|
You can see the S. Mc on the foot stone of Samuel's grave. The head stone is hard to see but it |
|
was plain enough to indicate Samuel's grave. On either side were Polly + Isabelle. The house is |
|
the old homestead, I think, at least it was where Elizabeth + Permelia lived.” |
