McAninch Y-DNA Status Report 2016

Our informal 'McAninch Y-DNA study' was first announced in 2005, over 10 years ago, so,

this update report is long overdue. At that time, we hoped that, working backwards through time,

chronologically, Y-DNA testing could prove some early relationships [Note n1]:

1. Kentucky: Daniel McAninch (b.ca.1750, d.ca.1822) and William McA. (b.bef.1765, d.1813)

2. western Pennsylvania: connections with John McAninch, early pioneer in Armstrong County

3. central Pennsylvania: connections with other McAninch's from central Pennsylvania,

4. other early McA/Ninch immigrants in Pennsylvania and Rhode Island (Pattrick, Oliver),

5. other early McA/Ininch's (John, Robert, Hugh) that emigrated to eastern Canada, and

6. any/all other McA/I/Ninches, 'Ulster variant of MacInnes', highland Scots Clan MacInnes

McAninch Y-DNA Study Objectives and Early McA/I/Ninch Pioneers

The ‘McAninch Y-DNA study’ started in 2005 [n1], as part of the Clan MacInnes DNA project

[n2], since McA/I/Ninch surnames are descended from Gaelic ‘MacAonghais’ (son of Angus),

and McAninch is one of the recognized surnames of the highland Scots Clan MacInnes [n3].

Multiple objectives have been defined for the ‘McAninch Y-DNA study’ - working backwards,

chronologically, Y-DNA testing could prove (or dis-prove) various McA/I/Ninch connections:

1.

Kentucky pioneers (could have been brothers, or cousins, not father and son) [Note n4]

a.

Daniel McAninch (b.1750-1755, (northern) Ireland, d.ca.1822, prob. Tennessee)

b.

William McAninch (b.bef.1765, d.1813, left his Will in Casey County, Kentucky)
