Elijah Hamilton McAninch, b.14 Feb. 1841, Pennsylvania (prob. Jefferson County), |

son of Elijah McAninch (1810-1840) and Jane M. (Crowe) McAninch (b.1814-1815). |
|
Elijah H. served as 2nd Lieutenant, Co. G, 105th Penn. Inf. during the Civil War, |
|
and married (Sarah) Elizabeth (Lib, Libby) Carrier, 31 Dec. 1868. In the Veterans |
|
Census of 1890, they are living in Pinecreek Township, Jefferson County, and then |
|
Elijah comes to California alone, where he is listed in the 1900 census as a Roomer at |
|
Hotel Burlington, 235 Second Ave., Los Angeles [NARA T623 R90 p71A ED 73 sh 2]. |
|
Elijah H. is listed in 1897, and in all of the Directories found between 1900 and 1918. |
|
In the 1910 census, Elijah is listed as the Keeper of a Lodging House on West 1st. St. |
|
with a Housekeeper and 12 Lodgers [NARA T624 Roll 84 p.126 ED 8[?] sh.1'B']. |

His wife Sarah was listed in the 1912, 1913, 1914, and 1918 directories (and 1921, in |
|
Santa Monica), although she was in Pennsylvania in 1920, and she died there in 1929. |

Civil War veteran Elijah H, McAninch died in Los Angeles on 1 Oct. 1918, and is |
|
buried in the Los Angeles National Cemetery, west Los Angeles, Los Angeles County. |

Ruth E. McAninch, b.23 Aug. 1884, (prob. Jefferson County), Pennsylvania, was |
|
a daughter of Elijah H. and Sarah Elizabeth (Carrier) McAninch [see Note 7 above]. |
|
Ruth came west, and married Zell E. Talbert, 19 Sept. 1907, Los Angeles County, |
|
California. Zell (and Ruth) are listed in the Los Angeles City Directories for 1909, |
|
1911 [same 732 S. Flower address as her father, Elijah H. McAninch], 1915, |
|
1916 [same 732 S. Flower address as her father, Elijah H. McAninch], and 1918 |
|
[same 500 W. Av. 50 address as her mother, Sarah Elizabeth (Carrier) McAninch]. |

Fred(eric) Lee McAninch b.May 1880, Putnam County, Indiana, sixth child and third |
|
son of John W. and Nancy Jane (Allee) McAninch. Fred married Edith Estelle Pollum, |
|
4 Mar. 1900, Putnam County, Indiana, and they came to Los Angeles, where Fred was |
|
listed in the 1901 City Directory. Their only child, daughter Rita T. McAninch, was |
|
born c.1901-1902 in California. Fred became a dentist, and a Captain in the U.S. Army, |
|
and served as a dentist in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1920, and then here in Los Angeles, in |
|
the mid-1920's (voter registration records). Edith died May 1923, and is buried in the |
|
Manhattan Cemetery, Putnam County, Indiana. Fred married(2) Lilly E. (unknown), |
|
c.1923-1924, and they lived in Indianapolis in 1930. Fred died 9 June 1934, and was |
|
buried in the Crown Hill National Cemetery, Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana |
|
(stone marker: Fred Lee McAninch / Indiana / Capt. Dental Corps / June 9, 1934). |
