After the war, William came back to Providence, where his mother and father died, in 1865 and

1866, respectively. In the 1870 census, William is still single, working in a braid mill, and living

in Providence, listed in the household of Robert Lynch, boot maker. [Note 2].

Sometime in his 50’s, and during the 1870’s, William married Hannah Nuttall [probably the widow

of an (unknown male) Nuttall], with Hannah’s son John W. Nuttall becoming William’s step-son.

The three of them are together on the 1880 census, in Pawtucket, Rhode island [Note 2}.

Unfortunately, the 1900 census record has not been found (yet). However, William (and Hannah)

can be found in the 1900-1910 Providence City Directories [Note 4] [1900-1908, at the addresses

“15 Winsor” and “72 Jefferson”, and the 1909 City Directory announced his death:

“McAninch, William, died Jan. 11, 1909” [Note 4; 1909 pg.409]

Willam was also buried at North Burying Ground, Providence, where his parents Oliver and Jane

were buried earlier, and where his wife Hannah (Nuttall) McAninch would be buried later.

In 1910, Hannah is listed by her nickname ‘Anna’ in the Providence City Directory:

"McAninch, Anna, widow of William, bds 72 Jefferson" [Note 4; 1910 pg. 416]

After William’s death, Hannah lived with her son, John W. Nuttall, an unmarried machinist, and

the two of them can be found on the 1910 census. The data in the 1910 census shows that Hannah

had 3 children, but only her son John W. Nuttall is still living in 1910. [Note 2, 1910 census].

Hannah died 29 Mar. 1912, and was buried at North Burying Ground, Providence [Note 1];

her son John W. Nuttall died in 1927, and is also buried at North Burying Ground, Providence [1].

Arthur McAninch (b.ca.1825 in Ireland, d.aft.1872)

Arthur McAninch was born 1824-1825 in Ireland (probably northern Ireland), and came to

Rhode Island. His first wife Jane was born at the same time, 1824-1825, and also in Ireland [2].

Arthur’s parents are not known, although he could have been another son of Oliver and Jane

McAninch. Arthur and his first wife Jane are in Providence in 1860 [Note 2], and had a son

there, born and died on the same day, 21 April 1861 [Note 3]. Unfortunately, Arthur’s first wife

Jane apparently also died during the 1860’s, although there is no record of the date nor location.

Arthur married(2) Ann Giblin [Giblen?] on 30 Oct. 1868, Providence County, Rhode Island

[Note 3]. Three years later, early in 1872, Arthur and Ann had a daughter, Mary E. McAninch,

who was born in March or April, 1872, and who died 28 Jan. 1873, at age 9 months [Note 3].

Nothing more is known about Arthur and Ann (Giblin) McAninch.
