established. . . To the south in what is now Nye County, George Lewis, Jacob Moon,

Lewis Tucker and the two Riordan brothers . . .  were among the early settlers.”

“Sunnyside was, and is, a small settlement in the southern part of the White River

Valley. It started as a ranch owned by a man named Horton. He built the ranch in the

1880's, and soon a small settlement surrounded it. A Post Office, with Mary Horton

as postmaster, opened on July 10, 1880, and served the whole White River valley.

The small settlement never really grew, but it did have a small mercantile store that

provided supplies for the many ranches in the valley.”
