[20] 1901 Census of Canada, Ontario, Peterborough East District, Belmont Sub-District,

Microfilm Reel No. T-6491, Schedule 1, p. 6:  “Patrick McIninch, head, born in Ireland on

29 February 1839, age 69 [age and date of birth conflict], emigrated in [1850?] [year is not clear],

Irish ethnicity, farmer, married, English religion [presumably Church of England]; L. Mary

McIninch, wife, born in Ontario on 9 February 1854, age 46, French ethnicity, married, English

religion; J. Ellen McIninch, daughter, born in Ontario on 25 June 1879, age 21, Irish ethnicity,

single, English religion; Al____ [given name is illegible] McIninch, son, born in Ontario on

29 May 1883, age 17, Irish ethnicity, gold miner, single, English religion; W. Henry McIninch,

son, born in Ontario on 22 January 1885, age 16, Irish ethnicity, single, English religion;

B. Al____ [given name is illegible] McIninch, daughter, born in Ontario on 16 April 1887,

[1834 or 1839?] [year is not clear], emigrated in [1850?] [year is not clear], age 71, Irish

[21] 1901 Census of Canada, Ontario, Northumberland East District, Seymour Township

Sub-District, Microfilm Reel No. T-6485, Schedule 4, p. 4: “John Mackinninch [spelled

phonetically, it appears], servant, born in Ireland on 31 May 1849, age 51 [date of birth and

age are probably wrong], emigrated in 1859, Irish ethnicity, carpenter/journeyman, single,

Church of England.”

[22] 1901 Census of Canada, Ontario, Hastings West District, Belleville, Microfilm Reel No.

T-6473, Division No. 2, p. 9. This census indicates that Henry was born on 21 November 1839

and that Margaret was born in Ireland on 5 January 1845 and emigrated to Canada in 1850.

Oral family history is inconsistent about the exact place of Margaret’s birth in Ireland: possibly

County Cork, possibly County Sligo.

[23] 1901 Census of Canada, Ontario, Hastings North, Rawdon Township, Division No. 1, p. 4.

This census states that Elizabeth was born on 12 April 1829 in Ontario (which birthplace is

certainly incorrect and birth year is likely incorrect).

Notes [24] to [32]: Atlases, City and County Directories, Newspapers, Monographs,

and Other Sources:

[24] The 1864-65 Hastings County Directory lists Henry as a carriagemaker and blacksmith on

the west side of Front Street and he continues to appear as a carriagemaker and/or blacksmith

until the 1889 Hastings County Directory, according to Gerald Boyce, a Belleville historian,

in a letter dated 23 May 1991. A 4 May 1864 article in the Hastings Chronicle reported that he

was elected second lieutenant of the Independent Fire Company No. 1.
