[14] Canada West was the name of the jurisdiction which became the province of Ontario on |
1 July 1867 when Canada federated. The British colonies of Upper Canada and Lower Canada |
were united in 1840 to form one colony named “Canada”, but for administrative purposes the |
colony was divided along the old Upper/Lower boundaries and the two parts were, respectively, |
called Canada West and Canada East. |
