Woman, 94, Gets Pension of $14 Under Aid Law |
Martha McAninch, 94-year-old Lima resident who lives at 336 W. Vine St., is the second person |
of this district whose application for an old-age pension has been approved by state officials, |
according to word received Tuesday at the courthouse by Arthur Hunt, investigator for the Allen |
County board of aid for the aged. Hunt said her name was among those of 21 that have been |
certified to State Auditor Joseph T. Tracy as eligible to receive old ago pensions on July 30. |
The first application from Lima to be approved was that of William H. Gorman ... Both the latter |
and Mrs. McAnich (sic) are to receive $14 the first payment. Hunt explained that applications of |
four more persons are expected to be approved and certified before the deadline for July payments. |

Hero's Body Returned / The body of Second Lt. Robert R. McAninch has been returned aboard the |
U.S. Army Transport Lt. James E. Robinson from Europe, the War Department announced today. |
Lt. McAninch is the son of Mrs. Austa A. McAninch, 349 1/2 West Fourth street. He was killed |
June 28, 1944, in Normandy. He was a pilot for an observation plane and was struck by American |
guns when only three or four hundred feet from the ground, making it impossible to bail out. |
At the time he enlisted Lt. McAninch was an employee of the Tappan Stove company. Prior to |
that he had been associated with his father, the late Walter L. McAninch, in the Buckeye Clothing |
company. Lt. McAninch was born in Mansfield, June 1, 1920, and was 24 at the time of his death. |
Besides his mother, he is survived by one sister, Mrs. Hobart Moree, of Pittsburgh. |

Hero's Rites Set Tuesday / Memorial services for Lt. Robert M. McAninch, who died in France, |
June 27, 1944, will be conducted at the graveside in Mansfield cemetery, Tuesday at 3 p.m. |
Rev. Carveth P. Mitchell, pastor of the First English Lutheran church, will officiate and military |
honors will be conducted by McVey Post No. 16 of the American Legion. |
Born in Mansfield on June 1, 1920, Lt. McAninch graduated from Mansfield Senior high school. |
He was associated with his father, the late Walter L. McAninch, at the Buckeye Men's Clothing store |
and after his father's death was employed at the Tappan Stove company. |
He was shot down while flying over the battle area in Normandy while he was serving as an artillery |
observer for the 87th Armored Field Artillery battalion. He was awarded a Purple Heart and Air Medal. |
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. W. L. McAninch, of 349 1/2 West Fourth street, and one sister, |
Mrs. Hobart Morse, of Pittsburgh. Friends may call at the Finefrock funeral home tomorrow evening. |
