II. C. Reconstructed Plot Plan and Master Layout View of the Pleasant Hill Cemetery

This is a master layout of the cemetery, synthesized from the four eye-witness reports [1] [2] [3] [4].

Presented in ‘Plan View’ here, this layout can be considered a ‘virtual cemetery’, giving the reader

a look at the inscriptions and layout of the cemetery, as it might have been before it was destroyed.

This tabulation summarizes the information known for all of the 19 graves that have been identified

in this cemetery, including the various inscriptions that have been recorded. Specific grave numbers

“1 to 8, 8b, and 9 to 19” are used here, from the sketch map in the Phillips Estate papers [1].

The chronological order of burials, and the development of the Pleasant Hill Methodist Cemetery,

can be seen in the “Tracing the Physical Growth of the Cemetery, 1847-1868, in Five Phases”

section [of the online report], which shows five distinct phases in the growth of this cemetery

Phase 1. 1847-1848, McAninch-Pike ‘family cemetery’ for two children;

Phase 2: 1851, four new graves added (total of six graves, in a triangular pattern);

Phase 3: 1853-1855, three new graves added (add a new row, total of nine graves);

Phase 4: 1859-1860, five new graves added (around the edges, total of 14 graves); and

Phase 5: 1864-1868, five new graves extend the cemetery at both ends (total of 19 graves).
