In the 1880 census, after Samuel A. and William have left home, John W., Martha, the six younger children, and two boarders are living in the western half of Johnson Township, Clinton County [38].

John W. McAninch died in 1891, probably in Clinton County, Indiana (not Iowa), and then his wife Martha Ann died five years later, on 12 Oct. 1896, in Russiaville, Howard County, Indiana [40].

Samuel A. and Matilda (Rollins) McAninch had three children, probably all born in Clinton County --

1. Charles E. McAninch, b.1874 (later in the year, since his parents were married in Jan. 1874); (probably) married Lucy A. Snodgrass, 1 Sept. 1898, in Clinton County [Note 41]; Charles E. and Lucy (Snodgrass) McAninch had three daughters: Velma L., Lola S., and Martha V. [1920 census, Note 43];

2. Alden (Alvah?) W. McAninch, born 1876-1877, (possibly Feb. 1877); (probably) married Effie Davis, 29 June 1898, Clinton County [42]; Alden W. and Effie (Davis) McAninch also had three daughters: Mary, Gladys, and Irene [1920 census, Note 43]; and

3. (John) Benjamin McAninch, born 11 Oct. 1878, in Clinton County [Payne Web Site, Note 3].

Unfortunately, Samuel A. McAninch died before the 1880 census, but his widow Matilda McAninch and their three children can be found in the 1880 census, in Johnson Township, Clinton County [38].

(John) Benjamin McAninch, son of Samuel A. and Matilda (Rollins) McAninch, married Lourena Elizabeth Johnson, 8 Oct. 1902, in Clinton County, where they had seven children [family documented in the “Johnsons” book, Note 44, and Payne Web Site, Note 3]:

7. Roy Earnest McAninch, born 28 Jan. 1915, married Meredith Virginia Lee.

William McAninch, second son of John W. and Martha Ann (Smith) McAninch, (probably) married Louisa Neff, 6 Sept. 1874, Clinton Co. [37], but, nothing more is known about his family or children.

Valentine (John) McAninch, third son of John W. and Martha Ann (Smith) McAninch, married Angeline H. Ostler, 12 Oct. 1880, Clinton County, and they had two children:

1. Harry A., born Aug. 1881, (possibly) married Florence Black, with children in Clinton County; and

2. Sallie? (Sarah?) [daughter, born Aug. 1887, age 12 on 1900 census, name unreadable] [45].

Milton A. McAninch, fourth son of John W. and Martha Ann (Smith) McAninch, married Laura / Susanna Tranbarger, 4 Nov. 1883, Clinton County, and they had two children:

1. Flossie McAninch, b.ca.1884, married Horace I. Kingery, 31 Dec. 1902, Clinton County; and

2. William R. McAninch, who married Grace Lillian Hall, 12 Nov. 1908, in Clinton County [3].

John Wesley McAninch, the fifth son of John W. and Martha Ann (Smith) McAninch, grand-son of Samuel and Polly (Skidmore) McAninch, and great-grand-son of Daniel McAninch of Kentucky, married Ella Jane Carter, on 5 Nov. 1891, in Howard County, Indiana, and they had two sons:

1. Harrison Leroy McAninch, born 23 Nov. 1892, Howard County [2]; and

2. Clarence Nelson McAninch, born 19 Oct. 1895, Howard County [2, 3].
