(2) “Knights of Pythias - This order generally known as K. of P.’s had a lodge for several years

in town and the room occupied by the order was in the upper room of a hardware store owned . . . 

by Allen Job. Some of the members who wore the pins of this lodge were Joe Sharp, Beeson

Newman, Allen Job, W. Dobson, Elza Greenlee, Tighlman Crews, and Dan McAninch” (pg.26)

Daniel A. McAninch was born 16 Dec. 1850, in Hendricks County, son of Daniel and

Phebe (Pike) McAninch, grand-son of Samuel and Polly (Skidmore) McAninch, and g-g-son of

Daniel McAninch, of Kentucky. He married Rhoda Wilson, 23 Dec. 1869, in Hendricks County,

and they had 11 13 children; sadly, only five survived to adulthood, including George Daniel Elwood

McAninch (1880-1963), born in Coatesville, Hendricks County (George is this writer’s

grand‑father /Frank). Daniel worked as a carpenter and track crew foreman for the Vandalia

Railroad, consolidated into Pennsylvania Railroad in 1921 1905 [now Conrail]. Daniel and Rhoda

lived in Coatesville for their entire adult lives; Daniel died on 10 Feb. 1930, age 79, and the

Masonic service at Daniel’s funeral was read by his son, George. Rhoda died later that same year,

22 Nov. 1930, and both are buried in the Coatesville Cemetery, south of town.

 

(3) “South on Milton where the Walter’s garage is located [1966] the Weir sisters owned a home

and operated a millinery shop. Next door, Mrs. Tom McAninch engaged in dress making.” (pg.4)

Thomas A. McAninch, born in 1854, Putnam County, Indiana, son of Elisha and

Barsheba (Scott) McAninch, grand-son of Samuel and Polly (Skidmore) McAninch, and g-g-son

of Daniel McAninch, of Kentucky. He married (Laura) Alice Roland(s) (Robards?), 31 Jan. 1878,

in Hendricks County. Thomas died in 1920, and his wife died in 1931; they are both buried in the

Stilesville Cemetery, Stilesville, Hendricks County, Indiana.

In Nov. 1891, the Hendricks County Republican newspaper reported that “Thomas McAninch

has moved back here [Coatesville] from Indianapolis. ‘There is no place like Chiseltown’ he says.”

Iowa:  1913 – Elizabeth Jane (Quiett) McAninch, wife of Joseph McAninch

Mrs. Joseph McAninch died Wednesday morning at the home of her daughter, [Jane McAninch]

Mrs. David Walters in Lotts Creek township. She leaves many relatives and friends to mourn her

loss. The funeral service will be held today at 11 o'clock at the Ringgold chapel, conducted by

Rev. W. H. Cable, pastor of the Mount Ayr M. E. church of which she was a member.”

Minnesota:  follow-up to “Minnesota Death Certificates” in last issue [MFHN v.X n.4 pg.2002-31]

“. . . Royal Lloyd McAninch, no. 25 on the list . . . is buried in St John's Cemetery (Lutheran

affiliation) in Owatonna, several blocks from my house. . . . my next stop was our Steele County

courthouse, here in Owatonna, where I found that Royal's death was a homicide, actually he died in

Rochester, Olmsted County, which is the next county over . . . I went to the library and perused
