Kentucky: 1850 – H. H. McAninch family, twice in the 1850 census [MFHN v.X n.1 pg.2002-02] –

A possible explanation: “I had an observation noted at the time I did the research …  In the July listing, the real estate column is blank. In the September listing he is noted to own $300 of real estate. So my idea had been that he had been living on rental property in July, but by September had purchased and moved onto his own farm, which put him in the census taker's path a second time (That doesn't explain how Melissa aged four years in two months, though-moving must have been hard on her!). The middle initials for children in Sept. are Mary M, Sam'l J, and Betsey J.” research and analysis by Rosalie Eben Schack, Owatonna, Minnesota.
