Additional Comments by Marjorie (McAninch) Waggoner (6 Oct. 1999 and 10 Oct. 1999)

“I know that [there are] records showing that Cyrus and Mariah bought and sold much land in south Iowa. Since the log cabin home and the new place in town were so important to Mariah, I still feel sure she would have written in detail about the other houses or the various moves that would have taken place, because she wrote so vividly about things that affected her.

“… had a long phone conversation with Betty Jo [(McAninch) Barker] yesterday. She agrees that it would have been "out of character" for Mariah not to mention moves to various homes. After B.J.’s graduation from community college, and before she went to and graduated from Univ. of Kansas, she worked in the Ringgold County Courthouse. She said it has been so long ago that it was hard for her to remember the boundaries. She said that Lotts Creek Twp and Riley Twp were very near, and that older records at the courthouse were "very loose." Newer records, of course, were much more accurate.

“Iowa did not have good records of births and deaths until later. When Social Security began my Dad had to write to Ringgold County, Iowa, to get an affidavit of birth signed by an older sibling.

“I do not find a birth certificate for my Dad [(Peter) Clark McA.]. [she has] original letter from Clerk of the District Court, Ringgold Co, Iowa, Sept 2, 1942, to the Bureau of Vital Statistics, Des Moines
