While Pullman's idyllic vision of happy, satisfied workers living and working comfortably in Pullman ended with the famous railroad strike of 1894, many of the historic buildings still exist and are being lovingly restored to their original design. The community of Pullman, now located well within the boundaries of the City of Chicago, was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1971 [Note 7]. |
|
In January, 1987, Pullman Technologies, Inc., the corporate successor to the Pullman Company, offered the Illinois Railway Museum all of the remaining construction drawings, photographs and technical data in its possession ... [and] granted IRM use of the Pullman name -- the Pullman Library of the Illinois Railway Museum. All documents through the year 1956 have been transferred to the Museum with the remainder to follow. This is the definitive repository of technical data from the Pullman Company in its many corporate incarnations over the 101-year span of its existence [Note 8]. |
