California: 1884-1898, Placer County – John M. McAninch, born circa 1859-1860, in Ireland.

 

John M. McAninch was born in Ireland, circa 1859-1860 (age 25, 1884; age 31, 1890; but, 35 in 1896(?)). At some point in his young life, he moved to California, became a Naturalized citizen on July 22, 1884, in the Superior Court, Placer County, and then registered to vote on August 9, 1884. In the 1880’s, his residence was listed as Forest Hill, Placer County, California (1884, 1886, 1888).

 

Later, when John registered to vote in the 1890’s, he was living in Butcher Ranch Precinct; 1892 and 1894 have a personal description: height 5’ 10 3/4, light complexion, blue eyes, and dark hair. His occupation was listed as Stage Driver (1892, 1894), becoming “Stage Prop”. [Proprietor?] in 1896 and 1898; the last two also had three voter-qualification questions and answers -- Able to read Con. in Eng.? yes [Constitution?]; Able to Write Name? Yes; and, Phys. Able to Mark Ballot? Yes.
