Recent Events (it’s Tax time, and I’ve got Spring Fever, so here’s some current McAninch history)

Illinois: 1998 -- McAninch Arts Center, College of DuPage --

“The Arts Center celebrated its grand opening on Oct. 10, 1986, and ... nearly one million people have attended performances, gallery exhibits or rental events at the complex. On Oct. 10, 1998, our 12th anniversary, the Arts Center officially became the Harold D. McAninch Arts Center, named for our visionary former President and known informally as the MAC, [which] houses three theaters [and] nine instructional programs. Planning for the McAninch Arts Center began in 1981 ... The average week in the McAninch Arts Center includes 5.1 public performances of 1.6 arts programs, 2.2 rental events, 10.25 rehearsals and one usage by college departments outside the arts - or 2.5 scheduled events per day, seven days a week, 52 weeks a year. The 1996-97 season included 263 performances of 84 separate plays and concerts, as well as nine art exhibits.”

Bosnia: 1999 – U.S. Army personnel have been in Bosnia-Herzegovina since December 1995, with the multi-national peace-keeping force. Two McAninch officers, third cousins, met for the first time, Feb. 20th at HQ, Multi-National Div.-North, Tuzla, Bosnia (former MIG base north of Sarajevo) - Lt. Col. Mickey (McAninch) Miller, Staff Judge Advocate (SJA), 1st Cavalry (Ft. Hood, TX), and Capt. Kevin McAninch, Intelligence Officer (S2), 2nd Bn, 87th Inf., 10th Mt. Div. (Ft. Drum, NY).

Kevin (one of my sons) wrote “...we had a great little chat. We are both struck by how weird it is for two McAninch's... [to] link up in an old Yugoslavian Air Base... now an American headquarters building, 4000 miles from the United States - and have a little family reunion. Small world!”
