15. 12 of 13: 1873, Sep. 20: Joseph McAninch purchased from Allen Higgins, Treasurer of Ringgold County, by Tax Deed, an undivided 1/13th. This would have been Elisha McAninch’s part of the land. Including his own 1/13th, as one of the heirs of Samuel McAninch, this shows how Joseph McAninch acquired all 13/13ths of the land; I assume that Joseph and his family lived on one of these three parcels of land when they first moved to Ringgold County in 1866, but I do not know that for sure. /Rosalie

1870: Joseph McAninch was living in Lotts Creek Township, according to the 1870 census. /Rosalie

The next five land records, 16 to 20, show how Joseph McAninch divided the land parcels, and sold the “undivided 200 acres, more or less” that he had acquired (the 13/13ths), during 3 years 1870 to 1872.

Note: Joseph began selling parts of the “13/13” parcels of land in 1870, before he had even purchased all 13 undivided shares. In fact, he had sold most of it (at least 184 acres) before he had purchased the last two shares, 1/13th from Sarah (Harlan) Mills, in 1873, and then the last 1/13th with the Tax Deed for Elisha McAninch’s share of the land, also purchased in 1873.
